DESCRIPTION:October is coming and with it the Grayson LandCare Annual Meeting and Auction\, featuring hors d’oeuvres by Chef Jen Cavey! We look forward to seeing everyone for this event.  This year we are in western Grayson County at the Goodwill Grange\, 804 Grange Hall Rd\, Troutdale Va 24378.  We are excited to have Chef Jen cater this event.  Rather than a sit-down meal\, there will be time to browse the auction items\, mix and mingle and enjoy a steady stream of tasty treats and beverages.  Activities for the evening include sign in and membership renewals\,  the silent auction with drinks and hors d’oeuvres\, a celebration of  our founder and long time board member Charlotte Hanes\, a brief business meeting\, and the concluding live auction. Please invite your friends and neighbors to enjoy a fun evening with delicious food and an opportunity to support a great organization.

SUMMARY:River Cleanup August 3\, 8:30 am
DESCRIPTION:Feel like a morning on the river for a good cause? Join us at 1624 Battlefield Drive-look for the Grayson LandCare sign- between 8:30-9am to get organized and we will clean the area to just before Molly Shoals. Lunch will be provided. If you can’t join us for this cleanup\, there are cleanups every Saturday in August. Grayson County has proclaimed August as Clean River month. A committee of stake holders led by the New River Wildlife Club is coordinating several river cleanups with multiple groups taking different sections of the New river in Grayson County again this year. \nIf you would like to volunteer\, please email director@graysonlandcare.org and include your cell phone number. If we need to cancel\, I’ll post it on the GLC facebook page\, but I’d like to be able to contact you directly. Rain date is August 24. We had a lot of fun last time\, I hope you’ll plan to join us. Anyone who can bring canoes or flat bottomed boats would be a big help to collect and ferry trash to the trash pickup location. View Farm for hosting the September meeting.  There is always interest in the art of beekeeping and cutflowers continue to grow in popularity.  We’ll do a flower walk and end with a bee talk. In case of bad weather\, Hank will talk about bees at the GLC office.  Please meet at the GLC office to carpool\, there is limited parking and 4 wheel drive is recommended.  If you live on the western end of the county\, please carpool with friends. \ndirections: Stay on HWY 58 west for 16.7 miles. Continue straight in Volney (at Corner Market) where it will become HWY 16. Stay on 16 for 2.1 miles. Ignore the first Wallens Creek exit. Turn hard right onto 736 (Wallens Creek Rd). Go .1 miles and turn left onto 736 (Woodcrest Rd). Go 1 mile and Mt. View Farm\, 969 Woodcrest Rd\, will be on the left (the first driveway on left after Yonder Lane with a green farm gate\, which will be open) The driveway is .75 mile long and steep. \n

DESCRIPTION:This June presentation has it all: It’s a field trip\, cookout\, plant sale and tour!  Join us at the permaculture garden for a cookout and “ragged” plant sale.   We will gather at the Church of the Good Shepherd on June 19th  for a cookout at 6 pm followed by a tour of the garden. Bring a side dish to share. The plant sale will be recently divided plants from the garden\, not new seedlings.  The permaculture garden features a wide array of native plants and most are excellent for pollinators as well.   All proceeds go to support the Permaculture garden.\n\n

DESCRIPTION:Join us July 18th at the Church of the Good Shepherd to tour the Permaculture Garden.  This GLC project started 5 years ago when Cynthia Taylor offered to teach a permaculture class and the Church of the Good Shepherd offered to let the group use a 1/2 acre as a demonstration garden for permaculture\, with the provision that it be used to grow food for people in need.  Turning a hayfield into a vibrant\, productive food forest doesn’t happen overnight; but as the community partners celebrate the fifth anniversary of this initiative\, it is beginning to “bear fruit.”  The garden now includes a  pollinator garden along the driveway\, a food forest\, a vegetable garden\, a Cross Garden and wooden benches for rest and mediation.\nThe Permaculture Group has logged 3100 hours of volunteer labor in the last five years.  More volunteers are needed\, and anyone is welcome to join the group.

DESCRIPTION:We are thrilled to be able to hold our Annual meeting\, potluck and Service Auction at Eagleview Event Center. A big thank you to Chris and Joy Butler for their generous donation of their lovely venue for this event. The schedule for the evening: 5pm doors open. 5:30 Silent Auction opens for bidding. 6pm Dinner. 7pm business meeting\, Silent Auction closes. 7:30 Live Auction begins. 8pm Checkout. The Service Auction is Grayson LandCare’s largest fundraiser of the year. The potluck is always remarkable-GLC members are fabulous cooks! River Ridge will be providing delicious meatloaf.  Our wonderful members are asked to bring a vegetarian option\, side\, salad\, or dessert to share. We will be electing new board members. All GLC events and meetings are open to the public and free of charge. I can’t wait to see everyone!
