Grayson County Fair

The  Grayson County Fair is back!

The Grayson County Fair committee is pleased to announce the 3rd annual Grayson County Fair will be held this year. Always the 2nd Friday and Saturday of August, the dates for 2021 are August 13 and 14.  Thanks to Bottomley’s Evergreens and Farms for hosting the Fair at their warehouse in Elk Creek again this year.  We will be following all guidelines for Covid-19 to offer a fun and safe event.

Registration to enter the Fair competitions will be Thursday August 12 from 7am to 7pm. You do not need to be a resident of Grayson County to enter. For complete information about the Fair, please visit the web site. https://www.graysoncountyvaagfair.com/

Fair exhibits, competitions and the Youth Livestock Show will open to the public on Friday, August 13 at noon. The Livestock show opens immediately with a new Youth Stockman’s contest. The Poultry and Goat Shows begin at 6pm, followed by the Dairy Show at 7:00pm.  The Livestock Show continues Saturday at 10:00am with the Beef Show.  The Sheep Show will begin at noon or immediately after the conclusion of the Beef Show. The final show of the day is the Hog Show beginning at 3pm. For more details about the Youth Livestock Show and for registration information please contact Kevin Spurlin at 276-773-2491 or spurlink@vt.edu.

Fair exhibits and competitions will also open at noon on Friday August 13 and will feature the Honey exhibit which will open at 4pm for viewing and include a honey tasting beginning at 5 and closing at 7 pm. The Fair continues Saturday at 10 am and features the Honey competition.  Unlike registration for all other Fair events which will be Thursday the 12th from 7am until 7pm, registration for the honey competition is from 8:30 -9:30 am on the 14th. Judging begins at 10:00 A.M.

Stay tuned for a schedule of free events for the whole family. Fair competition categories include vegetables, baked and preserved goods, honey, photography, art, flowers, plants and crafts, including quilts.  Information for entering a successful exhibit is found in the “2021 General Competitions book”, located on the website listed above. The general rules for entry are above each category with specific information next to the items in the category.  Youth and adults are judged separately.

T-shirts based on the winning poster design from 2019 will be available soon. We will be continuing this contest in 2021 and encourage all artists to enter. The poster should have an agricultural theme and will be used as the basis for t-shirts and other promotional items. The winning entry will receive $200 and a blue ribbon. Second and third place ribbons will also be awarded. Rules and more information can be found on the webpage.

Miss Kitty’s catering will be selling food and beverages and ice cream.  Please plan to bring your own water bottles this year.

The Fair is seeking exhibits and vendors that complement our Agricultural theme and are of interest to area farmers and consumers. There is no charge to be part of the Fair. Please contact Michelle Pridgen for more information about entering the fair at director@graysonlandcare.org or call 276-768-0597.
