Grayson LandCare will be hosting Elizabeth Underwood, the new Executive Director of the New River Conservancy at our regular monthly meeting August 16 at 7pm, at the Baldwin auditorium in the 1908 Courthouse. Our choice of speaker seemed appropriate since Grayson County has proclaimed August as River month. A committee of stake holders led by the New River Wildlife Club is coordinating several river cleanups with multiple groups taking different sections of the New river in Grayson County.
In addition we will partner with River Ridge Farm to clean up the section from the boat landing at the bridge on Gold Hill Road to the curve where Battlefield Road turns up towards Rixey’s Market. This is a long stretch of river and will take lots of folks. If you would like to volunteer, please email [email protected]. Here is the link to the flyer https://graysonlandcare.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/2021-river-cleanup-1.pdf and waiver https://graysonlandcare.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/River-Cleanup-Participant-Safety-Waiver.pdf Given the weather sensitive nature of the project, the first date is August 7. Rain date is August 21 and final date is August 28. Anyone who can bring canoes or flat bottomed boats would be a big help to collect and ferry trash to the trash pickup location. Please save the date August 7th!
