Happy April GLC members!!
First, let me say a very late THANK YOU for allowing me to serve as president of Grayson LandCare this year. I appreciate your support and I am excited to step into this leadership role with the organization. As you all are probably well aware, I am the first new GLC board president in 7 years. Kathy Cole, an amazing leader for GLC, chose to step back from the Board, but is still very active with different projects of LandCare, including the Free Market (which re-opened on April 1)!
I know a lot of you, but I am sure there are others I haven’t “officially” met. I am currently a regional epidemiologist for the Virginia Department of Health–serving all of SW Virginia, including Mount Rogers Health District. My husband, Ches, and I have been in the area since 2012 and we currently live in Galax, but are looking (every day) for land in Grayson to build our “forever home”. We have three giant dogs (2 mastiffs and a great dane) and we enjoy spending more and more time in the county as we scout out all the different areas we could move to. Please come up and say “hi” at any of the member meetings this year if we haven’t met!
As I transition into this role, I am so thankful for the strong leadership of other Board members, and our executive director, Michelle. When I stepped into this role in January, I wanted to get a better understanding of all the amazing things GLC members are doing or may be interested in doing. Since GLC is a member driven organization, it only made sense to me that we ask the members what they are doing, what they want to do, and how we as an organization can better serve you all!
