In 2013, Grayson LandCare participated in the Appalachian Food Hub Project in partnership with the Alleghany Agricultural Coalition, funded by Heifer International and Seeds of Change, with oversight provided by Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture.
The purpose of the project was to assess the regional food system, to build collaboration and communication between the participants, and to construct a blueprint for a regional food system that would provide a reliable, secure food supply, grown in a way that sustains the region’s resources and provides a reasonable wage for farmers and others in the production, aggregation, delivery, and distribution system.
The project created a three year plan for a Local Food Initiative.
