Volunteers from Grayson LandCare, under the expert guidance of Charlie Whittle, helped Todd and Gloria Price prune his father’s old heritage apple orchard on a beautiful February Saturday.
Our chainsaw experts took out a lot of dead wood, the Intrepid Scion Wood Hunters carefully harvested heritage scion wood for grafting, and remaining branches were pruned for the first time in several years. A wood artist scored three burls for making wooden bowls, and the oldest and youngest piled pruned limbs into brush piles for wildlife habitat.
Assuming the farm does not sell before fall, we will help Todd and Gloria harvest many bushels of heritage apples!
