If you only attend one Grayson LandCare meeting this year, this is the one you don’t want to miss! In October, we have our Annual Meeting (voting on Board Members and Officers), a potluck with libations, and a silent auction. This year, it’s October 17 from 5-8 pm.
This is Grayson LandCare’s only fund-raising event each year; but it is also a FUN-raiser! We all find out what skills and hobbies other people have, and perhaps enjoy a few hours with them, making new friends. And we believe that EVERYONE has something of themselves to offer, so we encourage you to sign up. We need items of all types and price points; nothing is too small or large. This auction is a bit different from other ones you may have participated in. The items available for bid will be either handmade/homemade, or a skill/service. Handmade items might include wood crafts, knitted or sewn items, fancy cakes or candies, a basket of home-canned goodies, pizza making kits, original photography or artwork, a small piece of handmade furniture (bench, potato bin, etc.) … you get the idea.
Examples of skills or services offered might be a few hours of handyman services, general housecleaning or specialty chores (window-washing, gutter-cleaning, leaf-raking), a load of firewood, picnic + hike, wildflower hike, installation of a pollinator garden at your home, consultation on gardening, computer or other technical issues, writing/editing assistance, plumbing or electrical expertise, house-sitting or pet-sitting, …
Some of our most popular items have been meals at people’s homes, often with a theme. Examples of items could include a game night with a meal, brunch, picnic at someone’s property or a park, or chef prepared meal at your home.
Grayson LandCare is turning 15 years old!! As part of the potluck and annual meeting next month we will be celebrating our birthday too!! We will be hosting the event this year at Cox’s Chapel Community Center (1639 Cox’s Chapel Rd, Mouth of Wilson, VA 24363). Whether you donate an item to the auction, come to bid or just join us for the dinner and meeting, we look forward to seeing you there and please bring your friends.
