Last month we discussed the impacts on people and pantries of the end of SNAP (formerly Food Stamps) Covid Supplement, reverting to 2019 levels and reducing average household benefits by about $1,100 per year from 2022. March is typically a slow month for food pantries but 2023 is not “typical”. We gave out 371 boxes to 340 households; most ever, by quite a bit. Other pantries in SWVA saw similar increases. Our incredible volunteers made it work and we keep plenty of food for “surprises” like this. We will pack for 400 this month. This challenges us in demand on people, product and place but it is also our mission! We will achieve our mission and not be SNAPPED thanks to our amazing volunteers and donors!
