The Grayson County Fair will be August 9-10 this year. Once again, it will be held at Bottomly’s facility in Elk Creek. The Fair committee is working with the Elk Creek Fire Department and Hands of Grace Food Pantry to make progress on the multi-use facility at the old elementary school in Elk Creek. Until that time, Bottomley’s is only place large enough to hold the event.
We need help taking in fair entries on Wednesday August 7 from 3-7pm. The bulk of the entries come in between 5-7pm so if can’t commit to the entire time, any amount of time you can help would be appreciated. We’ll do a brief training at 2:30, or I can give individual instruction if that is not convenient.
While you are helping take in entries, why not enter some of your own items? The fair competition categories are fruits & vegetables, field crops, arts & crafts, photography, quilts, honey and flowers & plants. The quilt competition is People’s choice. The honey competition replaces the previous honey show. The Mt. Empire Beekeepers will still host a honey tasting and a beekeeping exhibit. In addition, the Dog show has expanded and will be held Thursday evening from 6-8pm. Check in is at 5 if you’d like to enter. And you help advertise the Fair by entering the Haybale Contest. First prize is $200 and is sponsored by Grayson LandCare. You can find all the information about the Fair at https://www.graysoncountyvafair.com/
We can also use help manning the Grayson LandCare booth on Friday and Saturday. Since I will be at the Market on Friday, help on Friday morning would be especially appreciated. The Fair runs from 9am to 7pm on Friday and 9am to 3pm on Saturday.
If you are interested in helping, please contact Michelle at director@graysonlandcare or 276-768-0597.
