Located in the small town of Independence, Virginia, the Free Market is a project by Grayson LandCare to serve the community by arranging for unwanted items to find new homes and save people money. We will also share information on local events and who provides what services, so those who sell their skills can find their customers.
We accept items in usable shape (and clean, please!) during hours of operation. We do NOT accept clothing, furniture, books, political or religious items. We especially like art supplies, office supplies, pet gear and small tools of all kinds. We always have sturdy boxes and packing material, as well as gift bags, paper, ribbon and gift boxes. We have lots of toys for children of all ages, so bring the children and grandchildren with you!
A little about our Founder:
Kathy Cole developed the idea of the Free Market for years before making it a reality in 2017. In that time tons-literally- of items have been diverted from the landfill and redistributed throughout the community. Over time, Kathy has added a medical lending library and an outreach section for Social Services. The annual Christmas shop provides kids an opportunity to shop for family members for free
as well as the general public.
