Meet the new leaders of Food Independence, Shannon & Mark Miller

As you read in the previous article, Tom and Anita are finally stepping down from Food Independence after creating and leading it for 6 years. Shannon and Mark Miller have agreed to take on that very large responsibility. We are so lucky to have 2 remarkable folks in our community. I’d like to introduce them to you in Shannon’s own words.

We spent most of our married life in Pageland SC running a landscaping company. Having a place in Independence, we came up on weekends, always wanting to stay longer. When the opportunity arose to retire we jumped and made the permanent move here. We have a daughter, son-in-law and three beautiful granddaughters that live in SC and a daughter that lives at home with us.

We have a true love for the town and the people of Independence and knew very early on we wanted to find time to help make a difference. Mark joined the Town Council and currently serves as Mayor. I was introduced to Food Independence through him and very quickly tapped into a love of volunteering I did not know was there.

We are both very excited to continue on with all the wonderful work that was done before us and know that with continued support from everyone that volunteers at Food Independence, and have been so kind to show us the ropes, we will thrive not only as leaders but more importantly as a pantry.
