Workday at the Department of Forestry Chestnut Orchard April 25

Join us April 25 starting at 8am. We’ll be thinning the exisitng orchard on White pine road. There are many superior trees in the orchard. However, they were set up for a field trial and planted close together. The good news, many of the trees lived. The bad news, we now need to thin out to the select trees for nut production We’ll be there several hours so feel to join us later in the morning as well. We’ll provide snacks, water and lunch. We’ll have certified chainsaw operators, we’ll mainly be dragging limbs to pickup trucks to take to a burn pile. Come help with this first stage of the Grayson County Chestnut project! Snacks, water and lunch will be provided.
If we can get the trees adequately thinned in 2026, we will have an abundance of nuts to harvest and share in 2027! Contact Michelle at director@graysonlandcare.org for more information.
