June at the Farmers Market

It’s June and the Market is in full swing. Grayson County Schools are closed for the summer and IFM Kids Bucks are back! The first 20 kids to come by the managers tent, that’s the red tent on the 58 end of Courthouse street, will receive 5 dollars worth of Kids Bucks to spend on fresh fruits and vegetables and eggs. This continues all summer until school opens in August. The only exceptions are when Andrea Wann and the Virginia Family Nutrition Program visits the market. On those days Andrea will distribute VFNP Kids Bucks.

June 17th is the first of only 2 Fiber Days this year. The Fiber Artisans had another successful Fiber Fest down in Sparta and we are pleased to have them join us. Fiber Days are a great opportunity to learn about raising and using fiber and to pick up a beautiful gift or treat for yourself.

June 24 is Kids Day! Always a fun day for Kids of all ages, all events are free. We’ll be joined by the Family Nutrition program who will distribute $10 of Kids Bucks to the first 20 kids to visit their booth. VFNP Kids Bucks are sponsored by Molina Healthcare. Miss Laura is back with games and contests, new this year, paper airplanes! Cowboy Don will teach roping, and there will be additional activities.

Just a reminder, the Independence Farmers Market is located on Courthouse Street, in the Gate Center parking lot and on the 1908 Courthouse lawn while the Town continues the construction of Town Park.
If you can’t make the outdoor market, the Online Market is open all year for orders Wednesday at 8pm to Monday at 8pm with pickup from 4-6pm at the office at 108 Courthouse street. Order at https://independencefarmersmarket.locallygrown.net/market

IFM is a member of the Virginia Fresh Match Incentive Network. The On-line and regular Friday Farmers Markets welcome Snap and EBT and offer up to a $30 match for SNAP purchases to buy fresh fruits and vegetables. We also welcome Senior and WIC Farmers Market coupons.
