SUPPORT SHANNON!! (PLEASE)
Shannon Miller officially becomes Chair of Food Independence in January. She has taken on more responsibility for several months and led planning, prep and distribution the last two months. Her husband Mark assists her. In November, they led our volunteers in distributing a record 492 boxes to over 1,000 local residents, and handled the associated chaos with ease! Shannon is great and really devoted to the success of Food Independence. We are very fortunate to have someone of her caliber (and Mark’s) taking leadership of the pantry.
Shannon needs the support of everyone at Grayson Landcare. With growth continuing, she will need all current volunteers and some new ones. Whether you volunteer or not, support her and thank her for all she is doing. Finally, if you can, show Shannon your support by making an end of year (or New Years) donation to support Food Independence. We are ok financially but costs continue to increase. We want to start Shannon with funding in hand for 1-2 years so she can initially focus on the mission more than just money. Checks can be made out and mailed to Food Independence, P.O. Box 201, Independence, VA 24348 or made on line at the LandCare website, designated for Food independence.
I want to close by saying what a privilege it has been to Chair Food Independence for more than five years; watching it grow into more than I ever imagined. Seeing LandCare and the community embrace and support it has been wonderful. Our incredible volunteers, donors and supporters are amazing, and the reason for our success. Thank you to all who have supported Food Independence in the past. Now please help Shannon build an even bigger and better Food Independence to serve our community!!!
With sincere gratitude,
Tom Simpson
Soon to be Past Chair

Just a reminder, the December distribution will be Dec 16 so folks get their boxes in plenty of time for Christmas. Please help spread the word to any neighbors in need.
